The Lockheed U-2 reconnaissance plane was built to a Central Intelligence Agency request issued in 1954. It flew for the 1st time on 8/1/55. The U-2 began flying "Spy Missions" in 1956 and its CIA missions were relatively secret until 5/1/60 when a U-2C flown by Francis Gary Powers descended onto Soviet soil 1,400 miles inside the Russian borders. This created an international furor known as the "U-2 incident." The U-2 still to this day flies on missions to many parts of the world. The U-2 is best known of the U-2 variants having been flown by CIA, USAF, NASA, and the Chinese Nationalist Air Force. It will continue to be a proven and needed tool in the defense posture of the United States and its allies. Can be built in four different versions (CIA U2-C, USAF - black, USAF - 2-tone, NASA, CIA being the easiest and NASA being the most difficult). Also includes a pilot figure! Intermediate to advanced skill level with painting and gluing required.

This aircraft was secretly developed for the U.S. Air Force during the eighties. It became the first airplane built with very special aerodynamic features and materials that make it almost impossible to be detected by radar while attacking enemy objectives. Realistic contours and RAM panels distinguish the F-117A Stealth fighter. Includes an authentic Aces II ejection seat.

More F-4 Phantom II's have been produced than any other modern warplane. Over 5,000 Phantoms have rolled out of the factory since the flight of the first prototype in 1958. It was developed to replace the F-105. Our "Wild Weasel" version is equipped with sophisticated radar equipment and electronic counter measures for evading and jamming enemy radar equipment. The Phantom has also served as a fight interceptor, photo-recon, bomber and attack plane. Truly a legend in its own time.

Early in 1940 the British Purchasing Commission approached North American Aviation about the possibility of producing Curtiss P-40 aircraft for the RAF. North American replied they could, within a matter of months, deliver a new aircraft of superior performance to the P-40. Although North American had no previous experience at designing fighter planes, the British accepted their proposal, and thus was born the P-51 Mustang. The P-51D was the major production model of the Mustang, nearly 8,000 being built. It had four .50 caliber guns in each wing and a bubble canopy. It possesed fine handling qualities, speed and reliability. Its exceptional range also meant that it could deliver the goods where no other fighter could. Few airplanes could claim all these attributes, and as such, the P-51 Mustang remains one of the greatest fighter planes of all times.

The US Navy Postgraduate Coarse in Fighter Weapons Tactics and Doctrine or “Top Gun” was formed in 1968 as a result of the kill ratio suffered by the US Navy over Vietnam. In March of 1969, the first course of air to air combat training took place. By 1972, the US Navy’s kill ratio had successfully risen to 12 to 1. In the early days Douglas A-4 Skyhawks and F-5 Tiger II’s were painted in adversarial paint to mimic the Soviet counterparts. Pilots would train in mock air to air combat against these adversaries. By the early 1990’s the Top Gun program started using F-16’s as adversaries and F/A-18’s as training aircraft. The new Testor Top Gun Kit includes the newer F/A-18 used by Top Gun in the early 1990’s. This 1/48 scale plastic kit includes many details and options and a Navy decal sheet that has never been offered in a Testor kit before, plus an authentic “Top Gun” ball cap
