Type description Steam lokomotive
Year/Period 1941
Origin USA
Speed 129 kph
The American Big
Boys are some of the longest and largest steam locomotives ever built anywhere
in the world. During the late thirties Union Pacific often used auxiliary engines
to haul trains from Ogden, Utah up a steep pass to Wasatch. U.P. wished to simplify
this system and instructed their own development department to design a new
locomotive capable of hauling a 3,600 ton train (max 4,200 tons) up the steep
pass. The 25 Big Boy locomotives were built in 2 groups. The first group, called
the Class 1, was built from 1941. The second, Class 2, was built in 1944. The
last goods train was hauled by a Big Boy loco in July 1959. Most Big Boys were
retired from service in 1961.

In August 2006
Revell, the model kit manufacturer based in the town of Bünde, North Rhine-Westphalia,
will celebrate its 50th anniversary. The German firm originated in the USA.
Plastic model building was born in 1947 in Venice, California, under the leadership
of the company's founder, Lewis H. Glaser.
Back in 1956 the enthusiasm for this new hobby migrated across the Pond, revolutionising
the leisure-time activities of unknown numbers of model builders and collectors
in Europe. In the same year the German subsidiary, Revell Plastics GmbH, was
established in Bielefeld. In 1957 the company's headquarters was moved to the
neighbouring town of Bünde. Initially, original construction kits imported
from the USA and Great Britain were marketed in Germany and surrounding countries.
Revellïs very first development in Germany dates back to 1971. During the
mid 80s an in-house development department with attached manufacturing facilities
was established. A wide range of products and many new product lines cemented
the company's reputation as market leader in the sector. Today the Revell brand
is synonymous with plastic model kits.
Revell is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with, among others, a kit truck&trailer
combination comprising a Scania Conventional T 143 and a refrigerated box semi-trailer
of the latest style. The decals included with the kit feature some model building
highlights and form the basis of the design for a truck&trailer combination
that will be seen on the road from summer 2006. This item does not ship outside of North America.

Since its establishment
back in 1939, Peterbilt has been considered the leading manufacturer of premium
range heavy trucks in the USA. The easily adaptable 4-axle 359 Conventional
is still in use today on heavy haulage duties in the north of America and in
Alaska. In order to allow heavy goods to be transported over long distances,
the truck was designed with three driven rear-axles. The long routes include
sections that are very difficult to negotiate so the tractor units have a bull
bar mounted in front of the engine hood. The 359 Conventional is equipped with
a Cummins-NTC-425 Diesel engine as standard, providing 425 hp. Heavy articulated
vehicles often use Cummins engines with up to 1,600 hp or Detroit Diesel aggregates
delivering 860 hp. This powerful truck is fitted with a 10-speed Fuller-RT-910-gearbox.

In 1917 two businessmen,
Edgar Worthington and his partner Frederick Kent, formed the Gersix Truck Company.
Increasing demand, causing a shortage of capital, gave rise to a new name Ken-Worth,
which was derived from the names of the partners Kent and Worthington. Thus
in 1923 the Kenworth Motor Truck Company with its head office in Seattle came
into being. The following years were characterised by increasing production
and expansion. Kenworth was one of the first manufacturers to introduce trucks
with diesel engines and the efficient COE (cab-over-engine) versions that provided
a significant increase in payload. In 1961 the first K100 (K short for Kent)
came out, a design made to maximise payload. Over the years the tractors became
ever more powerful, but also more luxurious. Different versions had two beds,
refrigerators and even kitchenettes. Subsequent modifications in the 80s led
to more efficient, reliable and long-lasting tractors.

"Big-Country - Big-Truck's",
it says all.In addition to its vastness, fascinating cities and scorching heat,
the Australian continent boats another special feature: trucks, trucks and more
trucks of all makes and types. Kenworth of Australia have their entire production
range on the roads of the fifth continent. The impressive conventionals do their
duty under the T900 banner (W900 in the USA). The T900 includes all the accessories
so typical of Australia. An sbsolute must for the crew is the airconditioning
unit, raised induction pipes at the air-filter boxes (to protect against dust
and dirt) and the bull bars -also known as kanaroo bars- to prevent damage when
colliding with kangaroos or wild cattle. Huge fuel tanks ensure a wider operating
or tank range, and Trilex rims assist with tyre changing. The T900 are powered
by Caterpillar, Cummins or Detroit diesel engines with a power output from 350
to 500 bhp. And so the "Kennies" thunder across the Australian outback
with up to three trailers or semi-trailers in tow.

Type description Tanker Trailer
Origin USA
Weight 30 - 40 t payload
On the American continent, as throughout the rest of the world, liquids are
transported daily. In addition to foodstuffs such as milk, fruit juices and
other liquids, industrial raw materials such as oils, fuels and fats roll back
and forth across the United States. As these include both non-flammable and
flammable substances, suitable tankers have to be developed. One of the largest
manufacturers of such vehicles is the firm Beall Trailers of Portland, Oregon,
USA. Since 1928 the firm has developed tractors and trailers for the petroleum
industry. With the functional design and excellent workmanship of their vehicles
the firm very quickly gained a good reputation which laid the foundations for
their present day success. Distinguishing characteristics of the shiny semitrailers
for petroleum and hazardous goods, which must be equipped with highly visible
warning labels, are a really low weight combined with a high pay load. A typical
trailer from the Beall range is the 2-chamber 4-wheel semitrailer made by Revell
as a model kit with chrome components. This trailer, with its fifth wheel coupling
that rotates through 180 degrees and adjustable pick-up plate, fits all tractors.
