For many decades the M48 bridge-laying tank was the standard bridge-layer of theUS Army engineers and was also used by many NATO partners. The first troop trials (M46) with a shorter bridge began in 1958. Later it was decided to use the chassis of the M48 with a 20 m long scissors bridge. This combination proved extremely successful, not least due to its great ease of operation and low-maintenance bridge hydraulics. The fuel consumption of the vehicle was nothing short of phenomenal, with a cross-country petrol consumption of 500-700 litres per 100 km. The scissors bridge which was just 20 m long was laid and retracted by 4 hydraulic cylinders. One after the other the raising, laying and folding cylinders were activated. After the bridge was laid the two hydraulic connections were automatically separated by reverse motion. In the US Army 2 were allocated to each tank battalion.

The MGM-5 Corporal developed in the USA was a surface-to-surface short-range missile that could be equipped with a nuclear warhead. With this or alternative warheads the weapon would be able to attack targets up to a distance of 140 km. In the event of war in Europe the Corporal would be used as a tactical nuclear weapon. The first artillery battalion with Corporal missiles was set up in 1955 (6 out of 12 American battalions were stationed in Europe). The Corporal weapon system remained in use until 1964.

The "Wolf" 3rd generation light gl German Army truck has excellent cross-country mobility and flexibility and can be used in all units. It distinguishes itself on all terrains due to its all-wheel drive that can be switched on and off, cross-country reduction gear and differential locks, which also makes it a reliable means of locomotion on missions abroad. The standard version of the "Wolf", which can be transported by air, was first procured by the German Army in 1988 as a successor to the "Iltis". In the meantime models have been procured with different armaments, wheelbases, engines and superstructures. The "Wolf" is also in service with other armed forces, for instance, with slight modifications, as the Puch G in the Austrian Army. In total almost 200,000 have been built.

The Kübelwagen was built in 1938 to meet the requirements of the army ordnance office for a light, cross-country personnel-carrier. The design originated from the pen of Ferdinand Porsche and was a version of the well-known "power through pleasure" car (in practice a predecessor of the Beetle). Between 1940 and 1945 about 55,000 of these vehicles were built, just a few of which survived World War II undamaged. The good traction of this rear-wheel-drive vehicle was achieved by means of an intermediate gearbox in front of the rear wheels. The horizontally opposed engine developed 24.5 bhp and could reach a top speed of 80 kph. It was capable of climbing a 40% gradient with 4 occupants and had a fording depth of 45 cm. The total unladen weight of the vehicle was only 725 kg and it proved itself in all theatres of war.

It was not until after the M3A1 Scout Car, that was made from 1941 to 1944, had become outdated for its original reconnaissance mission in World War II, that it started on its rightful career. The almost 21,000 examples made served the US Army in European theatres of war as command, patrol, ambulance and transport vehicles in addition to their original scout function. In addition several countries allied to the USA such as France, Great Britain and the USSR used them. The armament consisted of two to three MGs that could be mounted at any point on the peripheral rails. In order to reduce surplus stocks after World War II the USA disposed of the M3A1 Scout Car to many other armies throughout the world.

To supply combat and support troops on the battlefield with, for instance, munitions, lubricants and fuels, in difficult terrain highly mobile cross-country vehicles are used. In 1964, under the leadership of MAN (Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg, with the participation of the firms Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz, Büssing, Henschel and Krupp, the GB (joint bureau of the German commercial vehicle industry) was formed. Between 1935 and 1942 about 36,000 of the R-12 were built. The majority of these came out of the works in the military version. The German Army often equipped the R-12 with a sidecar and an MG 34. Used by special motorcycle riflemen units, these combinations penetrated the enemy front and advanced deep into the hinterland. 133 components make a detailed reproduction of the standard German Army motorcycle and sidecar combination. The Sd. Kfz.9 - 18 tonne heavy towing vehicle is one of the best known and most powerful German World War II tractors. About 2,500 of the final version were made between 1939 and1944 and used for recovering tanks and also for transporting heavy artillery and bulky goods. In particular the field maintenance troops could not have done without the "FAMO" for recovering heavy German tanks and in particular the Tiger 1. In order to prevent skidding during recovery, some vehicles were equipped with a rear earth spade that could be rammed into the ground.

The Biber (Beaver) bridge-laying tank, based on the chassis of the Leopard 1 main battle tank, was introduced to the troops in 1973. The bridge spans were laid flat (free projecting front section), as compared with the previously used systems such as the folding or scissors bridge of the M48, offering a flat silhouette that did not advertise the presence of the bridge assault over long distances. The Biber can bridge over a 20 metre obstacle within 2-3 minutes and it does not take much longer to remove it. For wider obstacles 2 bridges can be laid to overlap. The 2-man crew (driver and commander) can control the whole procedure from the tank where they remain well protected.

The Sd. Kfz. 9 - 18 t heavy recovery vehicle is one of the best known German towing vehicles of World War II. The final version was built at the Fahrzeug- und Motorenwerken (FAMO) in Breslau where about 2,500 units were made between 1939 and 1944. It was used for recovering tanks and transporting heavy artillery and bulky goods of all kinds. The 12-cylinder Maybach engine developed 250 hp and made the 8.30 m long monster into the heaviest tractor used by the German Army. The field repair troops in particular could not have managed without this heavy half-track.

The "Elephant" was designed for improved mobility on the battlefield and to meet the increasing need to transport heavy tanks. Development started in 1970 and by April 1976 the first vehicles out of a total of 324 were ready for delivery to the German army. One of its advantages is the 8x8 all-wheel drive. Between 1994 and 2000 the German army undertook a general upgrade programme for all 324 vehicles to enable the "Elephant" to remain in use until at least the end of 2015. It is customary for the crews to give their vehicles nicknames such as "Baby Hörmann" or "Dumbo". The "Elephant" is also used by the German army contingent operating under IFOR, SFOR and KFOR mandate. Since 2002 it has also been used by the Polish army.

As one of the German Army's most successful trucks, the light 3 t truck (Sd. Kfz. 11) was also deployed by the artillery and antitank defence units in the North African war theatre. Here it served to draw the 75mm type 40 anti-tank cannon as well as carry a crew of eight. Included in the set is a BMW R 75 motorcycle with sidecar and 50 infantrymen of the German African Corps with their typical sand-coloured desert uniforms and tropical shoes, sand goggles, kerchiefs and the typical peaked caps. Led by the legendary desert fox, General Rommel, they managed in 1942 to push the British troopers right back into Egypt, although in 1943 the British and Americans encircled them in Tunesia and forced them to surrender.

As it was used on all fronts in World War II the 210 mm Mortar 18, which was built from 1939 onwards, was one of the main German army heavy artillery guns. It was constructed of an upper and a lower mount with a double recoil system. In order to bring the mortar to the firing position the platform was lowered and secured to the ground with stabilizers, the wheels were raised and the lower mount was suspended from the limber. With an elevation of 0ø to +70ø it had a maximum range of 16,700 m using the 210 mm shell 18 or the 210 mm shell 18 concrete. As a rule the mortar was transported in two loads, but if it was needed in a hurry it could be towed in one piece by the Sd.Kfz.9 "FAMO".

Appeared in 1942, the "17cm Kanone 18" was, with the "21cm Mörser 18" the mainstay of the German heavy artillery during WW2. It used nearly the same carriage as the "21cm Mörser 18" with double recoil brake, acting on the tube and on the upper carriage. To set the gun in battery, the base plate was lowered and maintained with spades, the wheels were lifted and the limber was removed. With an elevation range between 0ø and +50ø and the 8.529 mm tube, it had a maximum range of 28.000 metres. Usually transported in two parts, for quick changes of position, the gun could be moved in one single piece, usually by an Sd.Kfz.9 "FAMO".

The combination of M20 tractor and 40/45 ton Rogers M9 trailer was capable of transporting all tanks then in use, so that even 30 years after the war these vehicles were still in service with western armies including the German army.

The U.S. Army Corporal is a surface to surface missile capable of being equipped with either a conventional or atomic warhead and can engage targets at a range of over 75 miles with great accuracy. The missile is carried by a specially designed transporter which travels to the launching site and erects the missile on to a launcher platform. Transporter cab doors open & close, operating pistons on leg braces, real gears elevate rotary boom, leg pads hinge & swivel, 4 movable support arms & braces. Six figures, radar scanner and launcher platform with optional traveling or launch position assemblies. Authentic U.S. Army missile and vehicle markings. Molded in light gray.

These kits let you bring back all the fun of flinging. Each one can assemble in just a few hours, and provides a fantastic scale model of an actual war weapon of yore. The catapult is perfect for chucking balls of paper and other small objects over cubicle walls. The trebuchet is better for long range targets (like the water cooler or networked printer). The ballista is excellent at laying down some old school cover fire. And, all you need to put them together are some strong fingers (or pliers), a cutting tool, and glue (not included). All three kits are perfect for showing your love of retro weaponry.
