The 408 examples
made by Thyssen-Henschel of the Spähpanzer 2 LUCHS were used from 1975
onwards in the Federal German Army tank reconnaissance units. The all-wheel
drive LUCHS (Lynx) is well armoured, has NBC protection and a special feature
of this vehicle is a station for a second rear-facing driver. The vehicle that
was upgraded with an improved ammunition feed system was given the designation
LUCHS A1. Up until the first combat capability upgrade to the LUCHS A2 in 1985
(this included the incorporation of thermal night vision equipment replacing
the original IR/white light searchlight), the LUCHS was fully amphibious and
could negotiate water obstacles independently with its rear-mounted propellers
and forward trim vane. It is armed with an Rh 202 Mk 20 mm machine cannon and
a 7.62 mm AA MG. The crew consists of front-facing driver, gunner, rear-facing
driver/radio operator and commander.

Since 1979 the Federal German

225 Leopard 2s have been upgraded to armament level A5. These vehicles received
improved passive protection with wedge-shaped add-on armour modules on the turret,
an electrical weapon stabilisation and aimisystem, a GPS vehicle navigation
system and a rear-view camera at the back. The Leopard 2 A5s were handed over
to the troops at the end of 1995. Since 2001 the vehicles have been completely
upgraded to armament level A6, with a 120 mm L55 cannon that is approx. 1.30

Year/Period 1951
Origin US
In 1951, the M-47 Patton that was built for the Korean War took over from the
renowned M4 Sherman used by the US forces and was the first NATO standard tank.
From 1956 the newly formed Federal German Army also received 1,109 of the M-47
Patton battle tank. These first battle tanks enabled the German army to set
up a new tank corps. Intended by the USA only as an interim solution, its solid
basic construction kept it in service for many years with second and third hand
users, sometimes into the 1990s. In total between 1951 and 1953 about 8,576
of the M-47 Patton were built in the USA.

BTR-70 was widely distributed in the Soviet Union and its successor states and
from 1979 onwards the East German army received 1266 vehicles of this type.
After the dissolution of the East German army these saw service with the UN
in the Balkans.

Half-track Vehicles of the Wehrmacht
Year/Period 1944
Origin D
Engine capacity 80 kW
Speed 40 bhp
Weight 15 t
The development of the heavy German army tractor (s.W.S.) began in 1942 as
a replacement for the 5 tonne half-track truck (Sd. Kfz. 6). The approx. 1000
vehicles built were mainly used with a platform superstructure as a supply vehicle
for the troops. By the end of World War II dozens of vehicles were also equipped
as a self-propelled mount for the 3.7 cm Flak 43 gun. In addition to the additional
protective armour for the engine and driver's cab, these vehicles had a reinforced
chassis to bear the weight of the anti-aircraft gun and the munitions. The further
improved 3.7 cm Flak 43 gun delivered from 1944 onwards weighed only 1,392 kg
and the practical firing speed was increased to 150 rounds per minute.

Year/Period 1942
Origin D
Engine capacity 48 kW
Speed 17 bhp
Weight 5,5 t
The RSO (Raupenschlepper Ost = caterpillar tractor east) was specially developed
by the Steyr company between 1941 and 1942 for use by the German army as a tractor
and transport vehicle on the Eastern Front. In order to increase production
capacity, orders were placed with other firms, but instead of the standard metal
driver's cab these had a simplified wooden cab (type RSO/03). By March 1945
therefore 27,663 vehicles had been issued to the troops. In addition to Russia,
the RSO was used by mobile anti-tank units as a tractor for the 7.5 cm Pak 40
to defend against the threatening Allied invasion in northern France. The 7.5
cm Pak 40 developed by Rheinmetall-Borsig in 1939 was in fact a further development
of the 5 cm Pak 38 which took over some of its essential elements such as the
splayed gun mount, the double walled protective shield and the muzzle brake.
The 7.5 cm Pak 40 was the standard anti-tank cannon used by the German army
on all fronts

Type description Tank destroyer
Year/Period 1966
Origin D
Engine capacity 368 kW
Speed 70 km/h
Weight 25,7 t
Following on from the success of the anti-tank vehicle and
assault gun concept during World War II it was decided, when the German Bundeswehr
was established, that such a weapons system would be introduced to support
the classic combat tank. The tank destroyer, designed according to the casemate
principle and which went into production in 1966, was a nimble hunter reaching
70 km/h and could manoeuvre much faster than other types of tank. Its low
height of 2.7 m and its accurate (for the period) and powerful 90 mm cannon
made it a dangerous opponent for attacking armoured forces. By the 1980s its
cannon was, however, no longer a match for improved enemy tanks, and a large
number of the 770 tank destroyers built were converted into observation vehicles
and used as such until they were retired in 2003.

Type description Medium-weight tank
Year/Period 1944
Origin USA
Engine capacity 367 kW
Speed 36 km/h
Weight 35 t
The medium M4
Sherman tank was built in larger numbers than any other and was the standard
tank used by the Allies in the Second World War. There were about 50 different
variants including the one with T34 rocket launcher dating from 1944. This
unusual variant arose from the US Army requirement to mount artillery rockets
on tanks in order to reinforce the conventional artillery. When the T40 rocket
launcher with 7.2 inch rockets proved unsatisfactory in 1943, the improved
T34 rocket launcher with 4.5 inch rockets was used from 1944 onwards. Very
small numbers of this vehicle nicknamed the "Calliope" were used
in the European theatres of war until 1945.

combat the new German tanks (Tiger and Panther) in World War II. The first of
at least 2500 vehicles made went into service in January 1945, in addition to
which they were used as tank destroyers for many years after the war ended,

The American M7 "Priest" HMC (Howitzer Motor Carriage), equipped with
a 105 mm howitzer and built on the chassis of the M3/M4 battle tank, was from
1942 the standard Allied self-propelled howitzer in the Second World War. The
self-propelled howitzer that quickly followed the fighting units in order to
provide tank protection and mobility received the nickname "Priest",
due to the mount with the 50 cal. MG that looked like a church pulpit. This
striking detailtogether with the fighting compartment are accurately represented
in the model kit and reproduced in detail. The kit that represents an M7 of
later production with the M4 chassis includes an easy-to-assemble one-piece
vinyl track and a soldier figure. The decals enable a vehicle of the US Army
or the French Army tobe shown.

Anti-tank vehicles with
their long-range guided missiles attack enemy tanks before these can operate
with their cannon. The US Army therefore developed the M901 ITV (Improved
TOW Vehicle) which combines the TOW guided missile system with the M113A2
armoured personnel carrier and can attack enemy tanks at distances up to 3,750
m. Over 2,500 of these units were built which, after conversion to the firing
capability of the TOW2 guided missile, received the designation M901A1 ITV.
The model kit includes a reproduction of the traversing TOW launcher that
is as detailed as the running gear and tracks, which are assembled from individual
links and segments. The decals enable two different USArmy vehicles to be

The specialised anti-tank
JAGUAR 1 with its HOT guided missile system was capable of precision attacks
up to a distance of 4,000 m. It was a development of the Tank Destroyer 2 with
anti-tank guided missile, based on the same chassis as the one with the anti-tank
gun. With a 500 hp engine and a weight of 25.5 tonnes the JAGUAR 1 is an extremely
manoeuvrable and speedy vehicle (70 km/h) that was in service with the Federal
German Army from 1978 to 2005. In 1996, 90 were delivered to Austria. Based
on the existing model kit for the tank destroyer with anti-tank gun, this one
has 43 new components. Due to its characteristic applique armour and the removal
of the gun it has a completely different appearance. Optional parts are available
for the different versions A1/A2 and A3. The decals represent a German or an

The new type Sherman M4A1
was introduced in January 1944. Despite an improved 76mm gun and a completely
new turret, the armament continued to be deficient so that the front end and
sides would frequently require additional protection. Thanks to their superior
numbers and good manoeuvrability, the American Sherman managed to stand up to
the German tanks. This tanks has been deployed in many war theatres including
Trou-de-Bra in Belgium on 03.01.1945 with the 2nd battalion of the 32nd US tank

Its upgrade potential
ensured that the M48 Patton battle tank remained in service from the mid 1950s
onwards. Not only in the US but also in the German army it formed the backbone
of the armoured artillery for many long years, until it would later be equipped
with a 105 mm cannon (M48 A2GA2) even after the Leopard 2 had been built. It
would be difficult to imagine the wars between the Arabs and the Israelis without
it. In the latest A5 version it was at least equal to its successor the M60.

The chassis was of a better design and further improvements were continually
incorporated in production. The final version of the tank had an altered engine
deck and the shape of the cylindrical mount mantlet was different. With its
7,5 cm 42 L/70 cannon and missile deflecting shape the Panther proved to be
a dangerous opponent. The V 12 cylinder Maybach HL 230P30 petrol engine with
a maximum capacity of 700 HP gave the 44,800 kg heavy Panther G a maximum speed
of 55 km/h. It had a crew of five.

and as a personnel carrier. The Sd. Kfz. 251/9 type C was equipped with an MG
42 and a 7.5 cm KwK 37 L/24 short barrelled cannon. 138 individual components
give an authentic and finely detailed representation of this 5.8 m long vehicle

The self-propelled
assault gun, specially designed for anti-tank warfare and the infantry, may
have outclassed the most built US Army heavy tank in the Second World War, but
the US troops counterbalanced these shortcoming by greater numbers of Sherman
tanks. The Sherman M4A1 that was introduced in January 1944, despite an improved
76 mm cannon and a new turret, still lacked adequate armour. Consequently the
endless columns of well equipped and trained GI's, in combination with the tanks,
were a critical factor in the defeat of Germany. Based on the StuG III with
improvements suggested by General Guderian, the assault gun IV was used in all
theatres of war, but the main burden of combat was usually borne by the ordinary
infantryman. These were in use from the French coast to the distant expanses
of Russia.

Based on the famous
Panzerkampfwagen V "Panther", the "Jagdpanther" was superior
in battle to any allied opponent thanks to a successful combination of mobility,
armour and fire power. The jagdpanther, fitted with an 88 mm Pak 43/3 L/71,
had gone in production in January 1944. To answer the various tasks requested
from the deutschen pioniere (German sappers) during WW2, several specialised
sappers units have been created. Top of the breed were the sturmpioniere (assault
sappers), who, while fighting with the infantry, had to storm the enemy's defences
head on.

The "Elephant"
was designed to improve mobility on the battlefield and due to the increasing
number of heavy tank transports. Development had already begun in 1970 and
in April 1976 the first of the total of 324 vehicles were handed over to the
German Army. The advantage was its 8x8 all-wheel drive. The tank howitzer
2000 is currently the most modern and powerful artillery gun in the world.
The first production vehicle was delivered to the German Army in 1998. The
maximum range of fire is 30,000 m. The Fennek is the most up-to-date reconnaissance
vehicle of its class and was delivered to the troops in December 2003. This
177 kW approx 10.5 tonne vehicle has an extendable sensor head so that the
roof height could be kept very low at 1.79 m.

In 1944 the self-propelled
gun was developed using proven components from the production of the M4 Sherman
tank. It was first used in 1945 when it was tested under war conditions by the
991st FA Artillery Battalion during the bombardment and capture Cologne. However
it did not come into major used until later in the Korean War in 1951-53. Due
to the 155 mm length of the cannon it acquired the nickname of "Long Tom".

In 1942 the British
realised that their tanks had no cannon that were equal to those of the German
tanks. Consequently, they developed the Comet, which was used from 1944 onwards.
This tank was a good all-rounder with extraordinary manoeuvrability and a remarkably
high off-road speed. As it could not be supplied to the troops until very late
in World War II it was only used occasionally in Europe.

Delays in the

fighting vehicle II. After successful deployment in Poland and France at the
beginning of the Second World War, it was also used in Russia and North Africa,
although in the meantime it had become inferior to the enemy tanks. The "F"
version developed in 1941 had reinforced front and side armour and with a
weight of 9.5 tonnes reached a speed of 40 km/h.

The M3 Lee tank came as a nasty shock to the Axis powers and played a valuable

Southwest Pacific. A number of M3’s were also supplied to Russia. This
historic medium tank was a heavily armed vehicle. It had a 75mm gun in the hull,
a 37mm gun and a 30 cal. machine gun in the turret and a cupola housing a 30
cal. Machine gun.
