It was suited for low flying missions by day and night in all weather conditions. Two B-57 Wings were deployed to Vietnam in 1965, where they became an irreplaceable weapon during ground support and night missions. A single B-57 could carry a weapon load similar to four F-4 Phantoms.

The B-2 bomber was developed as a successor to the outdated B-52 and as an alternative to the unfavourable B-1 bomber. A special, absorbing coating renders the Stealth bomber invisible to radar. The first flight took place at the Edwards AFB on 17.7.1989. Four General Electric F 118-GE 100 engines give the B-2 a maximum speed of 764 km/h at a service altitude in excess of 15,000 metres. Its range when fully laden is 10.00 km, or about 19,000 km with air refuelling.

The Avro Lancaster was the most famous RAF heavy bomber of the 2nd World War andwent into service in 1942. More than 7,300 of these machines were built for RAF Bomber Command. One of the most important RAF targets was the destruction of theRuhr dams that supplied important industrial installations with power. In order to accurately attack such robust targets as dams or barrages a rotating bomb wasdeveloped which was better known as the "bouncing bomb". For this attack a special new unit was set up, 617 Squadron under the command of Wing Commander Guy Gibson. Code-named "Operation Chastise" this raid took place with 19 Lancaster bombers on the night of 16th to 17th May 1943. The first two dams - Möhne and Eder - were successfully destroyed, whereas the other two - Ennepe and Sorpe withstood the attack.

The four-engined Avro Lancaster was without doubt the most famous of all the RAF heavy bombers in World War II. From 1942 it formed the backbone of the night bombing offensives deep in Germany and gained its fame through the sinking of the Tirpitz and the destruction of the Möhne and Eder dam. The Lancaster was able to carry loads of up to 9,980 kg of bombs, the heaviest individual one being the "Grand Slam". It saw service up to 1945 in 68 RAF Bomber Command squadrons and flew over 156,000 sorties. Out of a total of 7,300 aircraft produced almost half were lost. Today only two examples exist that are still airworthy, one in Great Britain, the other in Canada.

Type description four engined bomber

Engine capacity 590 kp
Engine two Daimler-Benz DB 601 engines coupled together
Speed 700 bhp

The He 177 represented a revolutionary construction and was the only Luftwaffe four-engined bomber. It came into service in 1942. The He 177 was powered by two Daimler-Benz DB 601 engines coupled together and driving, via a differential gear system, a single propeller on a joint shaft. Overheating continually caused flame-outs in the engines and quickly gained the He 177 the nickname "German Fire Brand". Later the He 177 would be used primarily for the operational glide bombs. The Henschel HS 293A was the most successful guided missile used in the Second World War. It had a capacity of 590 kp thrust, a top speed of 700 km/h and an explosive charge of 3325 to 500 kg. To reinforce the defence weaponry of the He 177 the A-6 series was planned which would have a quadruple gun mount in the tail turret. In 1943 to test these attachments six of the available He 177s were equipped with an experimental electro-hydraulic tail gun mount (4 x calibre 13 mm MG 131). Despite all its problems the He 177, due to its capability, was a very popular aircraft with the crews.

The Su-24 was regarded by NATO as one of the most dangerous of the Warsaw Pact weapons platforms. Today the aircraft is the bomber that is most flown by the Russian forces and in the greatest numbers. After the prototype took off on its maiden flight in January 1970 the Su-24 gave the Soviet Air Force some decisive innovations. This tactical bomber can be used for both low and medium altitude supersonic flights by day and by night and, thanks to its robust undercarriage, is suitable for operation on unsurfaced runways. From 1974 the Su-24 was delivered to the armed forces in large numbers. The Su-24M with its improved combat capability went into active service for the first time in 1983. It was equipped with a new avionics system for use with laser-guided and remote-controlled weapons, a nose cone modified to take a new radar system and an in-flight refuelling probe that was extended immediately in front of the cockpit. It can carry up to 8000kg of disposable stores on 8 hardpoints under the fuselage and 4 external stations on the wings. From 1989 an export version, the Su-24MK, was sold to several states in the Near East. In total over 1,200 of the Su-24 were produced.

The Mosquito was the largest World War II light bomber. Its performance and speed were only exceeded by the early German jet fighters. As one of the fastest and most manoeuvrable World War II aircraft the versatile Mosquito proved itself as a precision day and night bomber, as a pathfinder and as a reconnaissance plane. This fighter, built primarily of wood, went into use with the RAF in 1941 and, due to its outstanding performance, received the nickname "Plywood Bomber" or "Wooden Wonder". Due to its light weight and powerful Merlin engines, developing 1,650 hp each, it reached a maximum speed of 612 km/h. The Mosquito B Mk.IV version was used for precision bombing by two RAF squadrons from 1942 onwards and one of its achievements was the release and escape of French resistance fighters on 18th February 1944. Later it served in a total of 6 RAF squadrons on the front line.

Designed by the most innovative engineers in the USA, Jack Northrop and Ed. Heinemann, the Douglas A-20 family of aircraft made history. It was the first bomber with nose wheel landing gear. And at that time it was not needed by any country on earth! The prototype flew on 26th Oct. 1938, the first order for the Havoc was placed by France, followed by Belgium. It was only then that Great Britain showed interest in the aircraft. It was not until June 1942 that the first American A-20Cs came to England with the 15th Bomb Squadron and they were also used in North Africa. The main model of the A-20 family was the heavily armed G version. 2850 were built and used in all theatres of war. The A-20J was a remodelled G version that had frameless glazing in the nose instead of the 6 fixed MG's. It was very often used as the lead machine in A-20G formations and was also used by the RAF under the designation Boston Mk. IV.

Along with the Heinkel He111 the Dornier Do17Z carried the brunt of the bombing attacks against England up to the end of the "Battle of Britain". The Do 17, also known as the "Flying Pencil" was ordered by the German Luftwaffe to fulfil the role of a fast bomber. The first Do 17E-1 left the factory in 1936. The Z-2 emerged after only 113 Z-1's had been built . It had the more powerful Bramo 323P nine cylinder radial engine with a two-speed compressor producing 1050 Bhp. After only moderate successes, many aircraft were converted into night-fighters.

The Fw200 C-4 was the main series production version of this powerful reconnaissance bomber. It was the first modern "Long Range Aircraft" in the world. The military version was later named 'Scourge of the Atlantic' by Winston Churchill. Based on a reconnaissance version of the civil Fw200 built (but not delivered) to Japan, these aircraft formed the basis of the newly formed Kampfgeschwader 40 (Combat Wing 40). Finally in 1942 the most prolific Fw 200, the C-4 appeared. It was used as a long range reconnaissance aircraft and also as a bomber against maritime targets. For this role conventional bombs could be carried on attachment points under the engine nacelles and in the ventral bay. One of the Fw 200's main tasks was to search for allied convoys and then transmit tactical information to the German U-boats in order to prepare for a possible attack. Kampfgeschwader 40 (Combat Wing 40) was stationed at Bordeaux-Mérignac. The aircraft flew mostly alone during their missions which often lasted more than 14 hours. Their main area of operations lay in the area of ocean between Portugal and the Azores. Six SC250 bombs (of which two were carried in the ventral gondola) or two torpedoes could be carried as a bomb load. Out of a total of 107 aircraft built, 94 were C-4's.

The Ju 88 was certainly the most versatile German combat plane in the 2nd World War. It served as a dive bomber and for high altitude bombing. It was equally successful as a night fighter and as a torpedo bomber against shipping. It could also be used as a tank-buster, as a minelayer and for reconnaissance. After numerous modifications the 2nd prototype took to the air on 2nd February 1938. The Ju 88A-1 went into series production in September 1939. In order to satisfy the requirements of the German Air Ministry, who had also procured the Ju 88 for use as a dive bomber, the production machine received underwing dive brakes. The Ju 88 started its first missions with the occupation of Norway. In June/July 1940, the Luftwaffe concentrated on Channel convoys and coastal targets, followed by more attacks on the British mainland at the beginning of August. On 11th August, 54 Ju 88A-1's attacked Portland; later something over 100 Ju 88's took part in attacks on Portsmouth and Ventnor. From 15th August the English tactics changed and the Luftwaffe had less success, until on 15th September the page finally turned. This date went down in history as the "Battle of Britain. When the 2nd World War ended the Ju 88 was still in full production. By then more Ju 88's had been built than all other German bombers together - over 15,000 planes.

1/63 B-25 Mitchell Dolittle WWII Bomber

The North American B-25 Mitchell bomber had a wingspan of 67' 7". Fuselage length was 52' 11". Normally during WWII this version of the B-25 carried four .50 cal. machine guns in two revolveing turrets and one in the nose. The aircraft flown in the famous Doolittle raid had their lower turrets replaced by additional fuel tanks and two "dummy broomstick guns" extended from the tail to
discourage attack by enemy aircraft. The markings on your Revell Doolittle Raider B-25 bomber represent those used on the actual plane that Lt. Col. Doolittle flew himself during the raid. Your Revell B-25 Mitchell bomber model includes revolving turrets and
elevating guns, realistic details and authentic waterslide decal markings.

1/48 Dornier Do217 E-4

One of the most versatile and useful bomber designs the Germans put into production after the war started, the Dornier Do 217 remedied the shortcomings of the Do 17 while greatly advancing the design in all areas. In almost every way, the Do 217 was a success. It could carry a much heavier bomb load than either the Heinkel He 111 or the Junkers Ju 88. It was also very fast, surpassing both aircraft in maximum speed. The Do217E-4 version had the largest production with 527 aircraft being produced.

Features two long range fuel tanks and nose mounted cannon.
Detailed BMW 801 engines, weighted tires and recessed panel lines.
Decals for two different aircraft Do 217E-4, U5+XN, 5.KG 2, Gilze-Rijen, 1942 and Do217E-2, 3E+HN, 5./KG 6, Luftflotte 3, France, 1943.

The definitive version of the “Mitchell” was the B-25J, and it was optimized in the “hard nose” B-25J equipped with eight .50 caliber machine guns which took an incalculable toll on enemy shipping.

1/48 B-58 Hustler bomber

The Convair B-58 Hustler is one of the most unique aircraft in military service. Not only is it strikingly different in appearance, but it is the fastest bomber in the Strategic Air Command history. It set several international speed records, some still standing today. "Ginger", was one of the operational test vehicles, based at Edwards Air Force Base, California. On October 15, 1959, it became the first plane to sustain Mach 2 flight, flying between Seattle, Washington and Carswell AFB, Texas, in 70 minutes, averaging nearly 1,320 mph. In October 1963, "Greased Lightning", flew from Tokyo to London in 8 hours, 35 minutes, averaging 938 mph. However, on the last leg, one of the afterburners failed, reducing its overall speed. It is one of the few surviving Hustlers, and is now on display at the SAC Museum in Ashland, Nebraska.

1/48 B-1B Lancer Bomber

The B-1B Lancer is the largest free world aircraft yet built to use a variable-geometry, or movable wing, which is designed to provide maximum aircraft performance. With the wings fully swept forward, wing span measures 136 feet 8-1/2 inches. Sweeping the wings back allows the bomber to streak through the skies at 1,450 mph, or Mach 1.4, to deliver up to 115,000 lbs. of bombs, 32 AGM-69 SRAM missiles, or 32 of the new AGM-86 B cruise missiles. With the retirement of the EF-111 Raven in 1998 and the F-14 Tomcat in 2006, the B-1B is the last variable wing aircraft remaining in U.S. military inventory. New technology has given the B-1B a radar profile only one hundredth that of the larger B-52, allowing it to sneak under enemy radar beams, hugging the ground under the control of an automatic terrain avoidance guidance system. The B-1B is well designed for survivability and operational efficiency. It can withstand the effects of a nearby nuclear blast and take-off quickly, even if under attack.

Detailed cockpit, main landing gear and nose radar plus movable swing wings and tail planes.
Optional open or closed bomb bay doors with 16 AGM-69A SRAM missiles on rotary launchers.
Authentic decal markings for B-1B Lancer, 85-0080 (NO. 40) Lady of the Night, 28th Bombardment Wing, Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota and B-1B Lancer, 85-0090 (NO. 50) Hellcat, 28th Bombardment Squadron 7th Bomb Wing, US Air Combat Command Dyess AFB, Texas.
