From the North Pole to
the South, from the shallows to the deeps, exploration vessels undertake a
variety of ocean exploration assignments, acting as floating science laboratories.
Originally this 42 m long ship was an American mine-sweeper that was launched
in 1942. The US Navy made her available to Great Britain who used her in the
Mediterranean in World War II. After the war the ship remained in the Mediterranean
and was converted into a ferry, until she was taken over by an oceanographer
in 1950. This oceanographer fundamentally redesigned the vessel and installed
specific exploration equipment aboard for research purposes. Like the ship,
the model has hydrojet- propelled submarines, an additional rubber dinghy
and a Hughes 300C helicopter. The helicopter lands on a pad installed aft.
The two-part hull of the model is a true-to-original structural reproduction
with striking observation portholes in the bow. Two diver figures and two
sharks are also included.

The "Queen
Mary" which was laid down at John Brown's on Clydebank in 1930 and completed
in 1936, was one of the three 80000 BRT superlines of the 30's. In August 1936
the "Queen Mary" crossed the Atlantic at 30.14 knots westwards ant
at 30.63 eastwards, thus taking the Blue Riband from the "Normandie",
who quickly regained the trophy in 1937 until the "Queen Mary" finally
held the record until 1952. When the Second World War broke out, the liner was
transferred to Sydney, where she was fitted out as a troop carrier for 15,000
soldiers. After the war the "Queen Mary" returned to North Atlantic
passenger service. In 1967 the Cunard White Star Line disposed of the ship by
selling it to the town of Long Beach, where it has operated as a floating hotel
since 1971.

At first glance, the streamlined
shape, the stepped hull and the dynamic lines indicate an enormous power potential.
This power boat with a length of about 12 m cuts through the waves at a breathtaking
speed of 103 km/h. The passengers are glued to their seats by the headlong
acceleration of the two V8 engines (2 x 575 hp). Don Johnson in the well-known
TV series "Miami Vice" used this mode of transport.

The Titanic - one of the most up-to-date luxury liners of her time - achieved
fame due to the tragic events that overtook her during her maiden voyage on 14th
April 1912. The "Queen of the Sea" was to carry 1,316 passengers from
Southampton to New York for the White Star Line. During the night at about 23.40
hours, at latitude 41.54 degrees north and longitude 50.24 degrees west in the
Atlantic, the British steamship hit an iceberg that tore a 100 m gash in her starboard
side. When the Titanic sank at about 0.20 hours on 15th April 1,503 of the 2,206
people on board lost their lives. The 46,329 BRT vessel had a length of 267 m
and a displacement of 66,000 tons. With her 9 decks and in particular her 15 watertight
bulkheads, the ship was considered to be unsinkable. The Titanic steams on in
the popular imagination, not least thanks to the James Cameron film that won 11
Oscars. Decades after she went down the passenger liner has lost none of her attraction.
When the wreck was discovered in 1985, one question was finally answered: the
ship had in fact broken in two. At the same time, however, the mystique surrounding
the Titanic continued to grow, as mini-submarines brought back to the surface
pieces of that once so elegant ocean-going world.

On April 10.1912,
R.M.S. Titanic with 2200 passengers on board left Southhampton on its maiden
voyage to New York. It has been built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast and offered
its passengers every possible comfort. This most luxurious liner, considered
unsinkable at the time, measured 270 m in length and 28 m in width with a maximum
speed of 24 knots. On the evening of April 14.1912 the Titanic collided with
an iceberg that had suddenly appeared out of nowhere. In the resulting panic
it was impossible to abandon ship in an orderly and organised manner. Within
3 hours this giant liner sank, taking 1500 passengers down with it.

At 150,000 gross
tons, the Cunard liner Queen Mary II is the largest, longest, widest, tallest
passenger ship ever built. She accommodates 2,620 passengers, is home of 1,253
crew members and features sweeping staircases, expansive promenades and luxurious
accommodation - three-quarters of the cabins have private balconies. The Queen
Mary 2 also features ten dining areas, the world's first floating planetarium,
the largest ballroom at sea and the biggest wine collection afloat. Her total
length is 345 meters (1132 feet) and at a height of 72 meters (236 feet) with
14 passenger decks, she is taller than the Statue of Liberty and the Tower of
London. She is also the first ship of her type built since Queen Elizabeth 2,
being a true liner rather than a cruise ship. With her long, slender and exceptionally
strong hull, deep draught and powerful engines, Queen Mary 2 has been designed
to cross the North Atlantic between Europe (Southampton, England) and North
America (New York) in six days. The concept for Queen Mary 2 was born from the
purchase of the legendary Cunard Line by Carnival Corporation in May 1998. Carnival's
Chairman Micky Arison initiated the new ship study. Carnival's Chief Naval Architect
Stephen Payne and Cunard Line's Director of Newbuildings Gerry Ellis developed
the design. After a two year design period the contract was placed on 6 November
2000 with Alstom Chantiers De L'Atlantique, St. Nazaire France.Very detailed

She is the superlative
passenger liner. At 150,000 GRT, the Queen Mary 2 is one of the largest and
most magnificent passenger liners every built. With a length of 345 m and a
height of 72 m she even surpasses the Statue of Liberty. 2,620 passengers, served
by a crew of 1,253, are accommodated on 14 stylish and luxuriously appointed
passenger decks. With her long and elegant hull and powerful engines (max. 29
knots) she is specially designed to make the transatlantic crossing from Europe
(Southampton) to North America (New York) in 6 days. The concept for this transatlantic
liner was created in May 1998. In November 2000, after two years development,
the contract was awarded to a French shipyard and she was transferred to the
Cunard Line in December 2003. This vessel, that is probably the most renowned
of the present day, is reproduced in 323 true-to-original finely detailed individual
parts. The two-piece hull, the main deck with its structures and the compact
side walls endow the model with great stability. Transparent parts are provided
for the protective glazing on both the promenade deck and the excursion launches.
In addition to the numerous swimming pools, the engine nacelles with their marine
screws have been authentically reproduced. Details such as loading cranes, spare
screw blades, radomes and life boats round off the striking appearance of this
model.

The G.T.S. Finnjet
that went into service in 1977 counted as the largest passenger ferry and
still holds the record as the fastest and most powerful conventional ferry
in the world. Due to her unique gas turbine power plant that takes the vessel
to a top speed of 30.5 knots in just 3 minutes, the 1,145 km journey from
Travemünde to Helsini takes less than 24 hours. There is accommodation
for about 1,800 passengers and 380 vehicles on 9 decks. Ample facilities are
provided for the well-being of the passengers, such as restaurants, boutiques,
cinemas, a fitness centre, an entertainment centre, swimming pool and sauna
and a dance hall. The Finnjet, a member of the "1A Super" top Finnish
ice breaker class, has a length of 212.8 m and an overall weight of 25,908
gross registered tonnes. The Finnjet plied the regular Baltic route until
2005, when, after stays in the USA, the Bahamas and in Italy she was sold
to breakers in India in 2008. The Finnjet - one of the largest and fastest

Engine capacity 6800 kW
Engine a mid-engine and two side engines
Speed 25 knots (46 kph)
The HERMANN MARWEDE is one of the most up-to-date ships of its type in the world
and is the largest sea rescue cruiser ever put into service in Germany. The
ship was launched in the summer of 2003 and is stationed on the Island of Helgoland
in the North Sea. Since they were founded in 1865 the DGzRS lifeboat service
has rescued over 72,000 people from life-threatening danger and saved them from
a watery grave. With innumerable technical means of assistance for seagoing
vessels of all kinds the life-savers were also able to contribute to the prevention
of serious accidents. The work of the life-savers is financed exclusively by
charitable gifts and voluntary donations. The new cruiser is part of a concept
developed by the leaders, navigators and technicians at the DGzRS, to enable
the crews to continue to fulfil the tasks it has set itself and keep abreast
of changing conditions when rescuing people in peril at sea. For the future
the meteorologists and climatological researchers predict frequent and more
intensive periods of bad weather with prolonged episodes of high winds and storms.
Add to this within the next years an expected 50% growth in cargo movements
in the Northern European shipping sector plus an increase in sea traffic in
the North Sea and the Baltic areas. Already the Baltic ferries are used by over
50 million passengers per year.

Unique green sails
and over 100 years of history give this elegant sailing ship an unmistakable
image. The hull of the bark "Alexander von Humboldt" was built in
1906 following the design of the sailing ship "Bismarck" and was first
used as a floating light vessel named "Reserve Sonderburg". In 1986
the ship renamed the "Kiel" was replaced by an modern lighthouse.
At this time "The Sail Training Association Germany" was looking for
a large sailing ship to work with young people and found the ideal basis in
the "Kiel" with its windjammer hull. The Deutsche Stiftung Sail Training
(German Sail Training Foundation) was set up and with financial assistance from
the Beck & Co. brewery and a businessman in Bremen, the conversion to a
bark was started. Under the auspices of the DSST the youth training windjammer
was created with the aim of offering to young people from all over the world
a school at sea and an unforgettable learning experience. As an introduction
to the North Sea Week in 1988 the "Dream under 25 sails" began with
the naming of the vessel after "Alexander von Humboldt" the renowned
German explorer and natural scientist. Since then she has been a regular guest
at windjammer reviews and has sailed round the world several times. Length:

The clipper Cutty Sark represents
one of the most romantic ages in the history of ocean travel. She was launched
on the River Clyde, Scotland, in the year 1869, and spent most of her time transporting
goods around the world. In 1885, she beat the Thermopylae in a famous race from
Australia to England. The Cutty Sark made the trip in 73 days, the Thermopylae
took 80 days. Today, the Cutty Sark retains the glamour of her wind-blown past.
Resting in dry berth in Greenwich, England, the Cutty Sark lives on as the last
link to an age when the proud and beautiful clippers ruled the seas.

the eighth century AD, Vikings originating from Scandinavia regularly appeared
in Great Britain and on the European mainland on raiding expeditions in their
Longships. These highly sea worthy fighting ships of around 20 metres (66 feet)
in length had a bow at both ends, enabling them to beach and/or launch in either
direction. The shallow draught of only 1.5 metres (5 feet) also gave the Vikings
the option of sailing or rowing up inland waterways and rivers, allowing them
to raid areas deep in the hinterland. With these fast (a speed of 20 knots)
and very manoeuvrable fighting ships also known as "Dragon Boats",
the Vikings ventured as far away as Iceland, Greenland and even North America,
as excavations at settlements have proven.

The Santa Maria
was a typical merchant vessel of the 15th century. Except for Noah's ark, she
is undoubtedly the best known ship in the world. On September 9, 1492 Christopher
Columbus set sail from the Canaries in search of the westerly sea route to India
- on a voyage that was to become one of the greatest voyages of discovery in
history. He chose the Santa Maria as the flagship of his little fleet. With
100 tons and a crew of 52, she was the biggest of the three ships. After an
arduous voyage, on 12 October, Columbus at last reached Watling Island in the
Bahamas, believing it to be "one of the islands which are set down in the
maps at the end of the Orient". On a subsequent reconnaissance trip the
Santa Maria ran aground off Haiti. Her wood was ultimately used for the construction
of a fort.

Since the 12th
century cogs had been used as merchant ships from the Baltic to the Mediterranean.
Hundreds of ships sailed to England, Belgium, France and Portugal selling wine,
wool, salt, oil, cloth, sub-tropical fruits, beer and silver. With Sweden, Denmark
and Germany they traded in stockfish, wax, grain, wood, salt, tar, pitch, copper,
furs and amber. The cog was of such great importance to the merchants that it
became the synonym for the Hanseatic League. With the early cogs the advance
was made from coaster to merchantman on the high seas. In addition to the four
main trading ports of the Hanseatic League in Novgorod, Bruges, Bergen and London
(in 1266 King Henry III gave the Hamburg traders the right to trade in London)
many towns were established on the North Sea and the Baltic coasts and on navigable
rivers to powerful Hanseatic cities. Thus in 1237 Elbing near Danzig became
a permanent settlement. The main features of a Hanseatic cog dating from the
13th and 14th centuries are straight, slanting stem and stern posts, a single
mast with square sail, a forecastle and stern gallery and a rudder fixed to
the stern post. Cogs with a capacity of 100 to 200 tonnes were used both as
merchant ships and warships. From the middle of the 14th century the first guns
were used on ships, including in Northern Europe. Navigation was done by the
sun, the stars and the sounding lead. At the end of the 14th century the cog
was superseded by the hulk.

The Laser is the
world's most popular sailing dinghy. Over 190,000 Laser dinghies are sailing
in over 120 countries. Exciting to sail, Laser racing and Laser dinghies are
found in nearly every sailing club in the world. The boat designed in 1969 as
an easy manageable fun dinghy-boat was used at the Olympic games in 1996 for
the first time. Therefore the laser is to be classified as a strict one-design
boat class which interdicts alterations. With this uniformity of the boats the
preconditions are the same for all sailors and in the end at the competition
only their sailing knowledge is decisive and not the technical equipment. Every
Laser is handbuilt to precise quality control procedures. Each element of the
boat conforms to strict one-design specifications. From local club racing to
International and Olympic competition the Laser Radial is raced throughout the
world.

Type description Four-master
Year/Period 1911
Origin D
Wingspan 33 bhp
In 1911, following
in the P-Line tradition, Blohm & Voss in Hamburg built two four-masted barks
that went into Service with the Ferdinand Laeisz shipping line as the PASSAT
and the PEKING. On Christmas Eve 1911 the Passat set sail on her first sea voyage
to Chile and rounded the fearsome Cape Horn nine times. After World War I the
Passat went into French ownership and was bought back by FL in 1921. Then in
1932 the Passat was sold to the Finnish Erikson shipping company. In 1951 the
ship returned to German ownership. The Schliewen shipping company wished to
use her as a cargo-carrying training ship and in the subsequent refit installed
a 1000 hp auxiliary engine. After the tragic sinking of the PAMIR in 1957 the
cargo-carrying sail-training ships were decommissioned, as in that same year
the Passat found herself in the same unfortunate position - it was only with
difficulty that a capsize was prevented. From 1960 to 1965 the Passat served
as a stationary training ship with the Schleswig-Holstein sail-training school.
The new owner was the city of Lübeck. The Passat can still be seen today
as a museum sailing ship.

largest cruise ships with vehicle deck and has travelled the Kiel-Oslo route
daily since 2004. This modern 224 m long ship can accommodate 2,700 passengers
and 750 vehicles on 15 decks. However the ferry aspect of the vessel quickly
retreats into the background due to the extensive facilities (restaurants, bars, casino,
shopping centre, Aqualand, spa, theatre). This ship, which is eminently suitable
for short holidays, including the striking panorama deck, is authentically reproduced
with 45 individual parts. The one-piece hull, on which many features are engraved,

For over 40 years now
the well known British firm Sunseeker has been developing and producing highly
desirable and powerful de luxe motor yachts with a world-wide reputation.
The streamlined "Predator 108" is without doubt in a class of its
own and, thanks to its leading edge 7,200 hp trips Arneson surface drives
and ultramodern engineering technology, offers a breathtaking top speed of
42 knots. But high speeds are only one feature of this superlative yacht with
a length of over 32 metres. This fashionable vessel with its twin decks has
no equal in terms of supreme luxury and high standards. The equipment and
exquisite fittings can easily be compared with the ambience in large luxury
liners and hotels - the whirlpool on the foredeck, the sun loungers, the handsome
bar aft and stern garage are merely a few highlights. The tasteful main saloon
with additional bar and the roomy cabins below decks exhibit sumptuous luxury
in opulent quality. In 2006 the "Predator 108" was not only to be
seen in famous marinas such as Monaco, but also in the James Bond film "Casino
Royale".

1/350 SAGRES II Sailing Ship
The Sagres II was originally built as the Albert Leo in 1937,
and launched at Hamburg, Germany. After the war, it was taken over by the
United States, who gave it to Brazil. Now, it is owned by the Portuguese Navy.
An attractive ship, it’s square sails are decorated with red Maltese
crosses and the hull is trimmed in gold carvings, all presented on the decal
sheet. Although a full set of sails is provided, the model can be built to
represent the ship with them stowed, as if in port. The hull can be built
full, or you can display it as a waterline model. This feature allows the
models to be shown in a diorama as if waterborne. Rigging instructions are
printed on the detailed instruction sheet.

1/132 USS Bonhomme Richard Warship
The first USS Bon Homme Richard, formerly Duc de Duras, was a frigate in
the Continental Navy. She was originally an East Indiaman, a merchant ship
built in France for the French East India Company in 1775, for service between
France and the Orient. She was given to commander John Paul Jones on 4 February
1779 by King Louis XVI of France as a result of a loan to the United States.
On 23 September 1779 after a bitter engagement with the HMS Serapis the USS
Bon Homme Richard was victorious but shattered, on fire and leaking badly
defied all efforts to save her and sank at 11:00 on 25 September 1779. Display
stand, 14 crew figures, molded rat lines and sails. Black thread and jute
for rigging plus chain. Molded in dark brown, black, tan and cream.
